Cacao Oatmeal

I was in the middle of writing a new raw chocolate recipe (stay tuned, it'll be on here soon!) when I realised that I've never actually posted a recipe for one of my favourite simple breakfasts, chocolate oatmeal; it is honestly heaven in a bowl and is a wonderful way to start the day due to the mood-boosting properties of cacao. This oatmeal tastes completely decadent but it's actually super healthy and nutritious and will really get you ready to face the day ahead - it's my go to breakfast when I'm feeling a little under the weather, simply because it picks me up and gives me energy I need to keep going! I think we can all agree that chocolate is a wonderful thing, right?

Serves 1
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1 cup milk of choice (or 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 cup water)
  • 1 ripe banana (optional - this makes it sweeter and gives it a wonderful texture)
  • 1 - 2 tbsp raw cacao powder, to taste (you can use regular cocoa powder if you don't have any cacao)

Put the oats and milk of choice into a small saucepan, turn the heat up to the highest setting and bring the milk to a boil; once it's boiling reduce the heat to the lowest setting and let it simmer for a couple of minutes, stirring occasionally, until it's thickened up a bit. If you're using a banana cut it in half and mash one half completely into a pulp, then stir it into the oatmeal. Let it cook for another couple of minutes, stirring occasionally, until it's at your desired consistency; stir in the cacao powder then pour it into a bowl, top it with whatever you want and enjoy the chocolatey goodness!

  1. Can l make in a microwave? ?

    1. I've never actually made oatmeal in the microwave before but you can definitely do it! Maybe heat it on high for 30 seconds, give it a stir and then repeat until it's thickened up? xxx
