Raw Chocolate Sauce

There is no better accompaniment for chocolate pancakes than chocolate sauce, especially if it's healthy and raw (depending on the sweetener you use)! The wonderful thing about making your own chocolate sauce is that you can adjust the sweetness to taste so this recipe works for people who adore super dark and even bitter chocolate, as well as those with a sweet tooth. 

Serves one
  • 1 tbsp raw cacao powder
  • 1 tbsp melted coconut oil*
  • 1 tbsp liquid sweetener of choice, or to taste (I usually use maple syrup which isn't raw but you could also use agave, date syrup or coconut nectar)
*I melt my coconut oil by placing the jar in a bowl of boiling water and leaving it for a couple of minutes.

Note: To make mint chocolate sauce simply add 2 - 3 drops of peppermint extract.


This is one of the easiest and shortest recipes in the world - all you do is mix all the ingredients together and you've created your very own chocolate sauce! A word of warning though, if you're like me and you don't live in a warm climate then the sauce will start solidifying pretty much straight away due to the coconut oil, so you'll need to use it as soon as you make it. Drizzle it on anything and everything, and enter raw chocolate heaven!
